Teatime For Yogis

If there’s two things that I love equally and intensely in my life… it’s yoga and tea.

Both are consumed multiple times daily, both are wonderful for my physical and mental wellbeing, and both rituals bring such delicate and elegant joy to my day ❤

I was chatting with my friends at Your Tea recently about the similarities between TCM meridians, prana flow and the chakras. When it comes to alternative and holistic health practices, everything seems to just… fit.

Over the last week I have focused on a few chakra opening poses to get the prana flowing through any blockages occurring along the astral spine (through which the chakra points are placed within the body).

I’ve paired these all with a cup of tea – let me know what you think!

Pose One: Navasana variation

Navasana, or the ‘boat pose’ is a wonderful balancing posture engaging your core. I have made this posture more restorative by supporting myself by wrapping the arms around the back of the thighs.

The benefits of this asana include:

  • Strengthens the abdomen, hip flexors, and spine
  • Stimulates the kidneys, thyroid and prostate glands, and intestines
  • Helps relieve stress
  • Improves digestion

Manipura Chakra (Solar plexus/navel)

This chakra is physically associated with digestion, metabolism, digestive fire; and emotionally with feelings of assertiveness, decision making, risk taking and belly laughs!

By activating our core and maintaining the contact of the thighs to the belly, we are massaging and toning the lower abdominal organs (allowing fresh, nutrient rich blood to be delivered to these areas), as well as strengthening the lower back!

My tea selection for this posture is Energy Tea – to help you kickstart your day and give you the strength and determination to assert yourself in the home or office!

Pose Two: Utthan Pristhasana (Lizard Pose)

Every yogi’s favourite love/hate relationship: hip openers! The hips and pelvis are home to Svadisthana (the sacral chakra). Here in these tight hip flexors and glute muscles we store so much tension and plenty of emotional baggage! Long, deep holds are necessary to work deeper into these areas in order to achieve a great release. Try warming up with a vinyasa flow before settling in for some Yin style stretching 🙂

Svadisthana Chakra (Sacral chakra)

Svadisthana chakra is a place of vulnerability, creativity, and compassion. Emotional traumas can be stored here, so don’t be alarmed by feelings that pop up that you might have been unprepared for. Be brave and face these feelings, be mindful and observe them without judgment. These is also where we connect sensually with others and foster loving kindness (towards ourselves, and all beings).

My tea recommendation? Well, we ladies go through a lot, and sometimes we need a helping hand. Your Tea’s Fertility Tea can assist with hormonal or reproductive issues, and help you restore balance to your natural cycle.

Pose three: Salamba Sirsasana (supported headstand)

If you are a brand new yogi, please practice this under the guidance of a yoga teacher!

Supported headstand along with various inversions allows us to calm the mind, reducing stress, anxiety and depression. It can be therapeutic for sinus troubles, infertility, headaches and insomnia. When practiced correctly it can be very restorative and relaxing!

Visuddha Chakra (Throat Chakra)

Visuddha is our centre of self expression, of speaking up for ourselves and communicating effectively. Opening up the chakra in this asana can assist us in being more open and honest, more creative, and assists us to self-actualise. Balancing visuddha improves thyroid health, neck and jaw issues, and reduces stress.

To assist further in the lymphatic drainage and youth restoring properties of this asana, pair it with a cup of Anti-C Tea to boost your revitalisation for the day!

Don’t forget to finish up with savasana and a lovely cup of Sleep Tea!

I hope you enjoy these combinations, please comment below and let me know what you think, and what your favourite chakra balancing postures are!

As always, please practice safely and under supervision of a yoga teacher where needed. This is not a paid post – I just really love tea!

Date Night

Saturday night had finally rolled around and I was super excited… cause my loverboy had planned a date night to celebrate our moving in together 🙂

The weather was super blustery but nice and warm, so we trotted off to Eat Street to sample our favourite treats. We hit up Eat Street all the time as it’s so much easier for everyone to choose what they are craving, and it’s always reasonably priced.

Now, I’m a creature of habit… so I get the same thing every time!

I start with sweet potato chips, then sip on an iced tea, and stop by Gluten Off on the way out to pick up a GF cinnamon donut.

I wore my new Annalee Jumpsuit from The Parla which was perfect for this weather! Nice and light to keep me cool, and no need to fret about my hem line blowing up, up & away in the wind 😉

As well as my traditional cinnamon donut, I also took home a GF Twix Bix! Gooey, caramelly, biscuit perfection.

Les Bubbles

I guiltily noticed recently that an astounding two months had passed since I’d made a new post! Rest assured I hadn’t forgotten about poor old Lexie Lou, but in that two months I’ve been busy as always.

After coming home from a two week holiday in Perth for my best friend’s wedding, I was soon back into the swing of things… working my two jobs, preparing to move house, and trying to catch up on my ironing :/

I decided to make some time for my love and I to have a night out on our own. The first restaurant that popped into my head was Les Bubbles, a Parisian steakhouse in Fortitude Valley that had been popping up all over my Facebook newsfeed.

We got all gussied up in our finest, and off we went!

Les Bubbles do things a little bit differently to other restaurants… they offer one main that they know they do well! Quality grass fed beef is chargrilled to medium rare perfection, and the most delicious fries (or as we say at Les Bubbles, frites) grace your plate. And did I mention the frites are bottomless?!

I requested gluten free bread with my entree of a warm leaf salad and was pleasantly surprised with a fresh, thickly cut slice that delighted my tastebuds (with a light slather of butter :P). To keep my meal FODMAP friendly I refrained from ordering any sauce to accompany my steak. I also paired my meal with a delicious Chandon Rose which went down a treat! It would have been rude not to order bubbles 😉

They also offer vegetarian and pescatarian options, so all will feel comfortable at this steakhouse. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming whilst keeping it’s funky edge, and was certainly somewhere I would recommend for families, couples, young and old alike!

Pastel Play Time

Hello lovers! This my my third and final set of photos (for now!!) from my latest visit to Ra Ra Superstar.

My first outfit pictured here was a bit more cutesy-punk and features an adorable mini skirt made from recycled denim. A really flattering little piece that you could wear out to a party or during the day to a picnic!

The sheer socks are super soft and too cute to be believed. And to spice up any outfit, why not grab a giant eyeball pom pom hairband? Such a unique piece!!

I couldn’t resist this wee little set – a combination of florals and pastels…. we all know they are two of my very favourite things! The neckline on this top is super sweet, and it has a cross-over back for those who like to show a little skin 🙂

Little Clive

Happy Monday everyone! I hope your week is off to a fresh and wonderful start 🙂

What did you all spend your precious weekend time on? I missed out on the Teneriffe Festival, but I sure didn’t miss out on a delicious brekkie feast!

I visited Little Clive for the first time as it was recommended by a friend. Little Clive is still quite new and was neatly tucked into a great dining space on Ipswich Road.

As I have my specific dietary requirements, I often find it hard to find accommodating places to eat. I messaged Little Clive’s Facebook page a few days prior to visiting and they promptly responded with a kind message that they loved a challenge and would be more than happy to accommodate my needs.

The service we received on the day was prompt, friendly and genuine. The cafe and outdoor dining area was clean and beautifully decorated with a variety of fresh flowers.

Last but not least… the food!! 😍 I ordered poached eggs on gluten free toast, with kale and maple bacon. This was brekkie heaven on a plate. I got my coffee fix in the form of an almond milk latte, with salted caramel. This was, to say the least, a very indulgent breakfast!

My companions; boyfriend Sam, and good friend Mel (who had recommended the cafe, thanks Mel!) both ordered the breakfast board and were overwhelmed with a giant plate of delicious and fresh food.

You can find them on Instagram (drooling permitted) here: @littleclive

Be Quirky – Buy Quirky

Hello dear readers! I’m here to bring you another instalment of chaotic and quirky awesomeness from my friends at Ra Ra Superstar

This set has completely captured my heart!! The colours and pattern didn’t initially strike me as ‘my style’, but once I tried it on I was smitten.

The colours went surprisingly well with my hair and complexion, and I’m obsessed with the neckline on this top.

Flattering, feminine, super cute.
