Date Night

Saturday night had finally rolled around and I was super excited… cause my loverboy had planned a date night to celebrate our moving in together šŸ™‚

The weather was super blustery but nice and warm, so we trotted off to Eat Street to sample our favourite treats. We hit up Eat Street all the time as it’s so much easier for everyone to choose what they are craving, and it’s always reasonably priced.

Now, I’m a creature of habit… so I get the same thing every time!

I start with sweet potato chips, then sip on an iced tea, and stop by Gluten Off on the way out to pick up a GF cinnamon donut.

I wore my new Annalee Jumpsuit from The ParlaĀ which was perfect for this weather! Nice and light to keep me cool, and no need to fret about my hem line blowing up, up & away in the wind šŸ˜‰

As well as my traditional cinnamon donut, I also took home a GF Twix Bix! Gooey, caramelly, biscuit perfection.

Les Bubbles

I guiltily noticed recently that an astounding two months had passed since I’d made a new post! Rest assured I hadn’t forgotten about poor old Lexie Lou, but in that two months I’ve been busy as always.

After coming home from a two week holiday in Perth for my best friend’s wedding, I was soon back into the swing of things… working my two jobs, preparing to move house, and trying to catch up on my ironing :/

I decided to make some time for my love and I to have a night out on our own. The first restaurant that popped into my head was Les Bubbles, a Parisian steakhouse in Fortitude Valley that had been popping up all over my Facebook newsfeed.

We got all gussied up in our finest, and off we went!

Les Bubbles do things a little bit differently to other restaurants… they offer one main that they know they do well! Quality grass fed beef is chargrilled to medium rare perfection, and the most delicious fries (or as we say at Les Bubbles, frites) grace your plate. And did I mention the frites are bottomless?!

I requested gluten free bread with my entree of a warm leaf salad and was pleasantly surprised with a fresh, thickly cut slice that delighted my tastebuds (with a light slather of butter :P). To keep my meal FODMAP friendly IĀ refrained fromĀ ordering any sauce to accompany my steak. I also paired my meal with a delicious Chandon Rose which went down a treat! It would have been rude not to order bubbles šŸ˜‰

They also offer vegetarian and pescatarian options, so all will feel comfortableĀ at this steakhouse. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming whilst keeping it’s funky edge, and was certainly somewhere I would recommend for families, couples, young and old alike!

Our food was delicious, and the service was spectacular. We will certainly be back for more!

My first fashion icon

My mother was my first ever fashion icon, and remains one of my number one style inspirations.

lexieloublog

My mother is one of those rare people who always look perfectly put together. Her clothes are immaculately washed and pressed, and even if she has been in the office all day or running errands, she never gets creased or crinkled. Is she wearing magic fabrics? She never even ladders her stockings.

I wonder all the time if I will ever be as neat and delicate as my mother, however she has a slighter frame and is much more cautious and controlled in her movements. I’m more like an exploding frazzle-bomb with too many things running through my head, and too muchĀ to do. This translates directly to clumsiness… and some crinkles in my clothes.

Not only has my mother been a wonderful role model for excellent self-presentation, she has also given me the support and advice that is so necessary for any young lady becoming a woman. Mama bear always let me choose clothes and outfits to express my own style, but did not hold back from tactfully advising me when my outfits did not suit my shape, or if they were inappropriate for a certain event.

Growing up I, along with my brothers, was also taught proper dinner table manners and everyday etiquette (along with many other practical life skills). For this I truly am grateful – these are skills I have been able to apply in my adult life and they are so important! So many people nowadays do not possess these skills, but I am so glad that I do. That is probably because I’m trapped in a Jane Austen novel in my head… I was so born in the wrong era!

Happy birthday Mum, thanks for being the best mother I could ever have ā¤

Summer holidays are best spent by the seaside

As a child growing up in the Sunshine State, we spent all of our school holidays by the seaside.

Our home away from home at the Gold Coast brings back memories of evening beach walks, trips to the corner store to spend our pocket money on lollies, and the morning routine of beach -> pool -> lunch. A tried and true recipeĀ for holiday happiness.

I was excited to spend some quality family time on the coast again during my Christmas holidays and relive my youth. The lolly store is now a surfboardĀ shop, and our quiet Currumbin estuary is now a hub of family activity with the development of a play park and a beachside cafe. But some of these new changesĀ have brought with them new family traditions, one example of this is espresso at Barefoot Barista with my brothers.

The traditions may have slightly changed, but the sentiment remains the same šŸ™‚
